Chapters nine "Contexts" and ten "Futures" continued talking about the dirty past of design and took a new view to the future of design as the book comes to an end. It was also interesting to get another look at the designer and client relationship and the situations that arise. This was reminding me of the guest designers that visited and I compared some of their experiences in the industry to the big business examples in the text. This was also interesting because I like to know whats going on within these companies and past design efforts.
Though there are so many products and concepts that have been introduced to society, Cradle to Cradle is right, we have much more to address and the future does hold the solutions to help the elderly and countries with basic needs. Along with these hopes and anticipations, there is a constant worry about overly consuming and the amount of waste we continue to create. We must be proactive in making a change. I'm looking forward to seeing how our constantly evolving technologies, markets, and cultures continue to shape our processes for designing, conducting business, and solving societies problems.

Overall, I am optimistic about the product. I think we have the product itself near finished and the current challenges are the packaging and kiosk. Everyone in the group is willing to work with perspectives and each of us has a skill that adds a dynamic to our team. We chose a household type water filtration system/device. The product will be a more modernized model of, say, a BRITA system. In the beginning I contributed a handful of product concepts and also researched price points and problems in the home. I feel like I have done an equal amount of talking and listening. My first priority task is to work on the product packaging. We have agreed on most details so I'm looking forward to seeing these ideas conceptualized on paper.

C to C: 4-6
Cradle to Cradle continues following the theme of having it's reader recognizing waste, processes, and impact on the environment. Much of this text gives obvious examples of products that have negatively effected the environment, therefor its refreshing that we're now being introduced to some new ways of producing and recycling the products we use. I have started looking at companies and products I use more differently. I'm anticipating buying more products from companies who are attempting to change the way they are making things. Cradle to Cradle is a great text to recommend to others because it will benefit anyone who has little knowledge about what's happening in our environment, giving them a tool for change.
Guest Designers
On my way to class I was in a rush, thanks to the weather. I walked in just at the beginning of the brainstorming on how to approach the given task. I got the run down and we constructed a decent arch with a support arm. I was really excited to have a stimulating task at hand to get my mind geared up for the rest of class.
It was also interesting learning about each of their separate projects. this is because they each had similar but unique approaches and techniques as to how they created and manifested each design. It was also very assuring and beneficial to get first hand feedback from individuals who have changed majors, worked hard, chased their ambitions, and achieved success.
This was a great experience for, in my opinion, any student who is considering any type of artsy degree or anyone who is interested in art but is unsure of a major. I'm simply a minor in design, however I feel as though I made a very wise choice in choosing that minor.

Legal Issues in Design
Since performing the designer investigation where I did some digging on Shepard Fairey and learned about some of his legal battles. I've had this whole copyright thing on my mind due to his copyright battle concerning the Obama image. It seems that since then, copyright has been butting its head at least a few times a week. For instance, watching the Remix documentary. I also had to write a paper where I used citations. I was listening to NPR and they were talking about applying copyrights to fashion. Oh and lets be sure that the youngsters know when they're committing a crime as well. I continued watching videos and reading articles discussing the topic and heres what struck my interest.

From the get-go Cradle to Cradle really shits all over products/designs that came from the Industrial Revolution especially which have negatively impacted the environment. I think it is important to note that it the fragility of the environment was unsure. I am not saying that it's not an issue, however, we can't solely focus on the mistakes and shortcomings of past. Firstly, education is the most important step in making a change. It is also pertinent to create new processes and products to harmonize with the environment and possibly reverse the negative effects.
I think it is important to open any material with hard hitting facts and revelations. It was definitely effective in my experience as a reader. On that note, it is also important to bring the reader into a more positive light and promote positive efforts towards a better way of living. I believe it is easier to persuade when you have the receiver in a good mood and a state where they are more willing to embrace new ideas. I'm looking forward to the following chapters concerning eco-effectiveness.

Cradle Intro
Cradle to Cradle is already interesting to me. I was immediately intrigued and impressed by the construction and material of the text itself. I like that the book started off talking about the materials used and purpose of the book. I think nature provides a great blueprint for design and should and could be utilized on an even larger scale for a multitude of purposes.
The introduction also provides eye-opening accounts of recent flaws in design and materials, like lead based paint on children's toys. It provoked me to think back to what I played with as a kid and the environment I grew up in. I also thought about Frank Lloyd Wright, one of the designers I chose for the investigation assignment and how important it was to him to create with nature, not trying to recreate nature but to harmonize with it.

My Hood
1. No one has really shoveled the snow or salted.
2. A lot of people walk in the street.
3. Why are there speed bumps?
4. I've always loved those skulls above that house's front door.
5. Why are there shutters?
6. That church is creepy.
7. The huge lot that church sits on is also creepy, totally suitable as a cemetery.
8. Theres a ton of footprints and animal tracks.
9. There are not enough streetlights.
10. These "one way"streets are nearly senseless.
11. Many families live around here too.
12. I enjoy all the trees and landscaping in the neighborhood.
13. There seem to be more doubles than apartments or full homes.
14. Most of the houses around here have porches.
15. A lot of dogs start barking while I'm walking by.
16. This strip mall is wonderfully convenient.
17. The parking lot is a death trap.
18. There is less graffiti on this side of Hudson.
29. Why is there so much construction on Patterson?
20. There is a pretty nice scarf just laying in the dirty slush.
21. There are very few brick structures, especially houses in the neighborhood.
22. That Saab convertible should probably tape the back window back on.
23. I hear someone playing drums and guitar.
24. Theres a plush parrot in that tree!
25. My street splits into two opposite one ways.
26. There are some "For Rent" signs popping up in the area.
27.There are three churches within 3 blocks of my house.
28. My dog always uses the bathroom at Maynard & Adams.
29. Theres a lot of trash in the alley.
30. I really enjoy the paintings on the backside of the strip mall.
31. The corner store is usually part of my everyday life
32. That house has those tacky "Must be 21 to drink" signs up all year around.
33. I want a garden like that one.
34. Its really neat how they use the gutter system to irrigate the plants.
35. I hear more music, but this time I think it's a record player.
36. A stray cat just ran under a truck.
37. Theres a bus stop conveniently at the end of my street.
38. Some of the houses are painted unconventionally.
39. The church bells can be heard all throughout the neighborhood.
40. There are some squirrels out.
41. Taste of Orient smells delicious.
42. Why is that porch light on in the middle of the day?
43. I hate the way the frozen snow sounds when I step on it.
44. I like stepping on the ice and watching the water move around below it.
45. The snow is so compact and frozen, my dog can walk on top of it.

Let There Be Color!
I am very attracted to colors, therefor I thoroughly enjoyed the lecture, including the color wheels and optical illusions made with shading and tinting. While in communications yesterday, the instructor used an example of communicating through colors. He mentioned politicians choosing ties to communicate their personalities, desires, and/or beliefs.
I am looking forward to continuing my experimentation with colors especially because I'm working mostly with photoshop and pastels.

Comments: The newest light installment had just started while we were at the Wexner Center. I found it especially interesting that there is a 12 1/4 degree angle that correlates among other campus buildings. Also, that Eisenman wanted to upset society with its construction.

Comments: i really like going to Thompson for its open layout and use of natural light. I also found out that Thompson was renovated just before I arrived to OSU. This renovation cost $110 million!
